Unless you're from the Midwest, you might be unfamiliar with the term RUNZA. What is a runza?! Yes, that is a pretty fascinating term. I lived in Omaha, Nebraska, for a few years after college, and this renowned restaurant immediately became one of my favorites.
Their trademark sandwich, The Runza Sandwich, is made with meat, cabbage, and onions squeezed between two delicious slices of bread.
Oh, you guys, this is my absolute favorite sandwich. The components are so basic that one would dispute them, but TRUST ME. If you don't live near this restaurant, try this dish and you'll understand what I mean.
With a little love and some culinary magic, cabbage and ground beef become a tasty, cozy dish that the entire family will appreciate.

How To Make Runza Casserole.
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Roll out one tube of crescent rolls and set it in the prepared pan.
Step 2
Place 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef in a large pan and sauté over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Drain the meat and use a spatula to transfer it to the skillet's outside borders. Melt two tablespoons of butter in the center of the skillet.
Step 3
Add half a head of shredded cabbage to the meat and onion combination. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the cabbage has wilted. Season again with salt and pepper. Pour meat-cabbage mixture on top of the bottom crescent layer. Place an equal layer of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Recipe Notes:
- For an extra burst of richness and flavor, add a can of cream of mushroom soup to the hamburger cabbage mixture before placing it in the baking dish.
- For this meal, you may use any kind of cabbage!
- Hamburger may be substituted with any ground meat.
- Before you add the onions and cabbage, season the hamburger with 1 teaspoon of salt.
